Direct Linking to K-12 Media Repository Assets

 
  • For the purpose of creating direct links, Discovery Education Streaming Media Plus/Board Builder may be accessed by teachers and curriculum writers from within BCPSOne (More Resources > Tools & Utilities) -OR- from the BCPS Digital Content portal -OR- via direct link:  http://bcps.discoveryeducation.com.
    • Currently, adding direct links to Discovery Education content to BCPS One using the protocols described below is the preferred method over adding content from the BCPSOne Repository.
  • For the purpose of creating direct links, SAFARI Montage may be accessed:
    • By teachers and curriculum writers through BCPS One
    • Currently, Safari Montage content is not available via the BCPSOne Repository. 
    • C& I Office staff may use the Request Form for Content to be Uploaded to SAFARI Montage to have locally-created curriculum content made accessible to schools through SAFARI Montage. Once this content is uploaded, curriculum writers or teachers may obtain a direct link.

Obtaining Direct Links to Destiny Discover Assets

Directions for Teachers and Curriculum Writers:

  1. Select School from the Baltimore County Public Schools list
  2. Log in using BCPS One (if prompted)
  3. Search for your eBook, Interactive Book or Lightbox title(s) that will be shared. 
  4. Click on the title to bring up title Details
  5. Click Share to get the URL or QR code to share the title.  
    1. You can click Copy to copy the URL or click Download to download the QR code for printing.

Directions for Teachers and Curriculum Writers: 
  1. Log into Discovery Ed and locate a media asset.
  2. Use a down-arrow and select Share from the drop-down menu to obtain a direct link to a Full Video, Chapter, or Segment of a video. 
  3.  Click the Copy button in the pop-up window to copy the URL

Obtaining Direct Links to Discovery Education Boards

Directions for Teachers, Students, and Curriculum Writers:
  1. Access Discovery Ed and click on the Builder Tools tab to create a new Board; select My Content as the destination.
  2. With the Board open in the Board Builder screen, click the Share button. 
    • Teachers and Students select Sharing Level: School.  Curriculum Writers select Sharing Level: District
    • Select Permission Level as desired (Others can Save & Edit or Others can Save & View)

  3. Click on the My Content tab and navigate to the Board.
  4. To the right of the Board, pull down the Actions menu to Share.
  5. Click the Copy button in the pop-up window to copy the URL 

 

Obtaining Direct Links to SAFARI Montage Media Assets


Directions for Teachers 
adding links to curriculum lesson plans or other digital learning environments:* 

 

  1. Access SAFARI Montage via the BCPS One Digital Content tile.

  2. Locate and open a media asset or a Playlist you've created. (Ensure that you have selected the appropriate grade level for the content that you are searching)

  3. Click on the Perm-link icon to copy the Permanent Link to the media asset (see screenshots below).

    • You can obtain a Permanent link to a Full Video, Chapter, Segment or a Playlist you've created. 

  4. Add the Permanent link you copied to Schoology or elsewhere for direct access to the content.

    • Remember to include a Title using this format:   Media Asset Title - Safari

  5. When a permanent link is clicked, playback begins immediately after the BCPS user logs into Safari Montage. 

  6. Teachers may not add links to YouTube videos to Safari Montage to enable student access (since direct links to YouTube videos is blocked by the web filter for students). Follow these directions to add a YouTube link to Safari for student access:

 

Directions for Curriculum Writers adding links to BCPSOne curriculum materials for district-wide access:  

    • Videos in the Curriculum K-8 and Curriculum 9-12 core video packages will be accessible only at schools with those grade levels (elementary/middle OR high schools). Videos in the K-12 Super Core package are accessible only at high schools. 

  1. Access SAFARI Montage via the BCPS One Digital Content tile.

  2. Click on the School icon on the upper right hand corner of the SAFARI Montage screen and select either the Curriculum K-8 or Curriculum 9-12 link as appropriate for the curriculum grade level. Remember that videos in each package will be accessible ONLY at schools with those grade levels.  

    • If you do not have access to the Curriculum K-8 or Curriculum 9-12 "Schools" in Safari: When searching from Towson WAN Server, check to see which packages the selected video is included in by expanding the Packages menu below the video description and copyright statement, as shown below.

 

 

 

  

3. Search for digital content to support curriculum learning objective(s). This could be a complete video, chapter or segment; content in another media format; locally-produced content; or a Playlist you’ve created.

4. Click on content title to display the complete record, then click on the Perm-link icon beside Actions.

5. Copy the Permanent Link URL for the entire video or for a specific chapter or segment.

6. Paste the Link into your BCPSOne Course, Course Folder, Lesson, Overview or other digital learning environment.  Remember to include a Title using this format:   Media Asset Title - SAFARI

7. When a permanent link is clicked, playback begins immediately after the BCPS user logs into Safari Montage. 
*Please note that if you are adding a link to Microsoft Office document, spreadsheet or presentation, the direct linking protocol will not work. You will need to save the Microsoft file as a PDF in order for the direct link to work for users.
