Wordle is an application for generating word clouds from text that you provide. Wordle allows students to work closely with words and make interpretations since the clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends. Wordle relies on Java to function. You may encounter problems creating Wordle in the Chrome and Internet Explorer browsers. Firefox is recommended.
- Go to http://www.wordle.net
- Use the top menu bar and click on "CREATE"
- Paste in the desired text
- Click "GO"
- You can publish your Wordle to the gallery and will then have access to the embed code for use on a wiki or other web based resource. You can also use the "Print Screen" or "snip" feature on Windows and save as a .jpeg
