Copyright

Now This is Important to Remember!

  •  If you use someone else's work you must include bibliographic information at the end of you work to give them credit. This applies to everything even royalty free or copyright free materials.  Just stick a bibliography at the end of everything that you do. Remember we have access to EasyBib which make bibliographies super easy.  Check with your librarian for more information about this resource.

  • If you are going to "sample" something, the less you use the better.  The rule of 30 seconds is not true.  There is no "specified amount" that will insure that you are not violating copyright.

  • Look for copyright free materials to support your project.  Consider Creative Commons. (we have a whole page about this source)

Before you begin a project it is important the you review information on copyright. This video is a five minute overview that is fairly simple.

This video gives a nice overview of copyright using clips from animated Disney films (well within acceptable fair use ) This one is a bit more entertaining and engaging for you and your students.

Acceptable Use Policy

More information can be found on the BCPS Copyright and Fair Use page

Creative Commons

First, even if you use creative commons or any other public domain material, you must give credit, period. You cannot get out of it.  That is just copyright law.  We are fortunate that BCPS has purchased a subscription to EasyBib for all secondary students and employees of BCPS.

Looking for content for your to enhance your video, try Creative Commons  http://creativecommons.org/

Creative Commons: Remix from Creative Commons on Vimeo.

A few things about creative commons:

  • Not everything has no restrictions. Many things have limited licenses.  there actually six different levels of licensing.  Do not assume, read the licensing information about each item

  • This site contains music, images, video, and more.

Royalty Free Material

Royalty free (RF)- gives the right of copyright material or intellectual property to be used without the need to pay royalties or license fees for each use or per volume sold, or specific duration of use or sales.
